Namibia Visa Entry Requirements: Enquiries for Visas should be made, well in advance of an intended visit, to The Ministry of Home Affairs, Private Bag 13200, Windhoek - phone +264 61 292 9111, fax +264 61 223817. Foreign nationals visiting Namibia must be in possession of a valid passport. The validity of the passport must extend for a period of not less than six months from the date of entry into N Namibia. A return or onward travel ticket and adequate financial means are also required. Visas are not required for business visitors or tourists from the following countries: Angola* Austria*, Australia, Belgium, Botswana*, Brazil, Canada, Cuba*, Denmark, Finland, Germany*, Iceland, Ireland, Italy* Japan, Kenya, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malaysia, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal*, Russia*, Singapore, South Africa*, Spain*, Swaziland, Switzerland, United Kingdom,* USA*, Zambia*, Zimbabwe*, * Countries having diplomatic missions & consulates in Namibia A maximum period of 30 days is permitted for Business Visitors A maximum period of 90 days is permitted for Tourist Visitors Extensions to these periods can be applied for from: The Ministry of Home Affairs. |
Customs & Excise: Visitors from Southern Africa Customs Union (SACU) countries are exempt from paying import customs duty. Personal effects such as binoculars, cameras, clothing, jewelry etc. are free of duty for visitors to Namibia. All visitors are allowed duty free per person: (1)(1.1) Wine, not exceeding 2 liters (1)(1.2) Spirituous and other alcoholic beverages, a total quantity not exceeding 1 liter (1)(1.3) Manufactured tobacco, not exceeding 400 cigarettes and 50 cigars and 250 g of cigarette or pipe tobacco. (1)(1.4) Perfumery not exceeding 50ml and toilet water not exceeding 50ml (2) Other new or used goods (excluding television receiving sets) of a total value not exceeding N$ 1250 per person. (3) Additional goods, new or used, of a total value not exceeding N$10,000 per person (excluding goods of a class or kind specified in subitems (1.1) to (1.4), inclusive, of this item). |
Health: Vaccination certificates are not normally required, except in the case of travelers who have passed through countries where YELLOW FEVER is endemic. MALARIA is endemic in the Northern and Eastern parts of Namibia. Visitors are well advised to commence a course of prophylactics, especially if visiting these regions during the rainy season December to April. Use insect repellents and dress accordingly. HIV / AIDS. Namibia has the third highest rate of the infection in the World. MEDIVAC SERVICES. Visitors are advised to have comprehensive travel and medical insurance cover. Medical rescue and evacuation services are available in Namibia. Visitors can arrange private cover with one of these companies. SUN. Visitors are advised to wear sun hats and a high factor sun block. At the coast the sun is reflected from the water, in the desert the sun is reflected from the sand thus multiplying the dangers of sunburn. Closed footwear is preferable to open sandals. |
Traveling To Swakopmund By Hired Vehicle: Foreign driving licenses bearing the holder's photograph and in the English language are acceptable in Namibia. If the license is in a non English language, but has an English language certificate of authenticity attached to it, it will be accepted in Namibia. International driving licenses are also acceptable in Namibia. Foreign registered vehicles entering Namibia have to pay a Cross Border Charge or Entry Fee. All passenger cars, station wagons, single cab and double cab bakkies (pick up trucks) 2 x 4 and 4 x 4 , microbuses and mini bus fees are N$70.00 Driving is on the Left Hand side of the road. Speed limits on trunk roads is 120 KPH or less where indicated. Fuel cannot be purchased with a credit card in Namibia or South Africa. Petro Cards and Auto cards are issued for this purpose. The main tarred road B1 from Windhoek to Okahandja (67kms). Then drive on to the B2 running West to Swakopmund. Late afternoon will mean driving into the setting sun. Drive defensively and take care when crossing the desert. The gravel road C20 and C26 can be negotiated with cars during the dry season. Drive accordingly and avoid sharp stones which can cause blow outs. |
