Please note that accommodation is difficult to obtain in Swakopmund over holiday periods. Namibian and South Africa Christmas Holiday period is for four weeks in December and January. Early and secured reservations are essential.

The Namibia Dollar is divided into 100 cents. It is equal to the South African Rand which is also legal tender in Namibia. However the Namibia Dollar is not accepted outside of Namibia. Foreign currencies cannot be used for purchasing goods or services in Namibia. Foreign currencies and traveler's cheques can be exchanged at any commercial bank. Banking hours are Monday to Friday 09:00hrs to 15:30hrs. Saturday 08:30hrs to 11:00hrs. Diners Club, American Express, Master Card and Visa are acceptable in most towns.
Namibian Time
Namibia Standard Time is GMT + 2 hours during local summertime which is from the first Sunday in September until the first Sunday in April. For the remaining period Namibia time is GMT + 1 hour
Namibian VAT
Certain Items are Zero rated. The majority of goods and services are rated at 15%.
Caprivi Strip
The Caprivi Highway is now considered to be safe for travelers.
